Data
About the data
Every number on this site comes from a public source. This page lists them, how fresh they are and what we do when they are not.
Sources
- U.S. CBP Border Wait Times (public data): 69 ports, 30 on the Canada border and 55 on the Mexico border. Your browser fetches this directly as a fallback.
- CBSA Border Wait Times: 30 Canada-bound offices, used under the Open Government Licence - Canada.
- Hours, addresses and services: CBP port pages and the CBSA office directory, each with the date read, on the crossing’s hours page. Values we could not verify are labelled or left out.
- Advisories: U.S. Department of State, Global Affairs Canada and the FAA, on the updates page.
How fresh
A recorder polls both feeds every 30 minutes and publishes a small file your browser reads. The agencies themselves update about hourly, so a reading can be up to roughly an hour and a half old before it is stale by our rules. Every lane shows the agency’s own report time. Under 30 minutes is normal, 30 to 90 minutes is amber, and over 90 minutes the number is hidden.
History
We keep each reading so a weekday-by-hour pattern can be built. Our own history started in October 2026, so recorded charts appear after 28 days. For 26 of the 30 Canada-bound offices we also show the CBSA’s published 2010–2020 hourly series, clearly labelled pre-2020. CBP publishes no history, so U.S.-bound crossings show a pattern only from our own recordings.
Accuracy and corrections
Wait times are agency estimates and can be wrong. The data pages carry the same warning. If something looks wrong, tell us on the contact page with the page address and the official source that disagrees. See how waits are measured.
